The latest issue of Country Music People was delivered today and it was good to see mention of one of my favorite Texas Jewboys... Kinky Friedman.
So what is the kinkster up to these days? According to his
web site he is looking to run for governor of Texas in 2006.
As a fan of Sherlock Holmes, I was browsing the crime section of my local book shop when I found a book entitled, "Spanking Watson". The story looked mildly amusing so I purchased it not knowing what I had let myself in for. After the first few lines I was hooked. Kinky Friedman's writings are amongst the most quotable I have read. You only have to randomly open a page to find a gem.....
Those unfamiliar with Kinky Friedman should check out his
web site
In a career spanning 30 years the Kinkster has released a number of hugely entertaining CD, a number one selling series of books and seems to be constantly on tour in the states, Oz and the UK...
Not being one to frequently read let alone quote the Sunday Mail, I did find the following quote to be a good description of his mystery novels. "The Sam Spade of South Texas. Only soft boiled. And hipper. And funnier."
Just spent a few minutes making a few updates to the
jumbuck owner website. With any luck I should have it finished by the end of next week.
With Jenny from the Isle of Mull and my Cornish roots, Tony, who was kind enough to perform the blessing for us, added a Celtic touch in the form of the following prayer.
Deep Peace of the running waves to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the shining starts to you.
Deep peace of the son of peace to you.
On the 21st of Auust 2004 jenny and I married in Totnes.
It was the most amazing day of my life. We were blessed with fine weather and the company of all our friends and family.
After a nervous night, my best man 'Big Dog' Bill picked me up from my parents home to drive me to the registry office. As my friends and family arrived we moved inside to await the bride and her father. Those were the longest moments of my life!
Jenny entered the building looking stunning and after a short ceremony witnessed by our families, we exchanged vows and were pronounced man and wife.
We followed the civil ceremony with an Apache wedding blessing in the presence of all our friends and family.

After 1000 miles of Jumbuck ownership it was time for the 'running-in' service.
I don't like garages and I hate having to go and get cars serviced/fixed etc etc but I have to hand it to David Meek of Torquay they did a fantastic job servicing the pick-up.
Bought new a few months ago, the Jumbuck has been a great buy. Its comfy, offers good fuel economy and a real looker. It drives well and has been fantastic fun!
I had a bit of a niggle when I picked it up from the dealer but it was soon put right and the level of customer care provided by the dealership has been the best I have ever experienced. It's no wonder that Proton cars were only beaten by Lexus for customer satisfaction in the recent JD Powers survey.
Okay I admit it, as a kid growing up in the 70's/80's I loved those good ol' boys in their Dodge Charger. There was a certain charm about John Schneider/Bo Duke, Tom Wopat/Luke Duke, Cathy Bach/Daisy Duke and good ol' Denver Pyle/Uncle Jesse.
With news of the movie version currently in production my thoughts concerning the film decided to take a 'pedal to the metal' high speed journey.. (Feel free to hum the theme tune at this point)
Dukes of Hazard Film: GREAT!, FANTASTIC! at last, one of my all time favourites there on the big screen!
Dukes of Hazard Film: Hang on a minute...it will probably be as appalling as all the other recent big screen, big budget remakes of TV favourites. Hey I could be wrong, lets stay positive!
Dukes of hazard Film: Starring.. Seann William Scott, Johny Knoxville and Jessica Simpson... Hmmmmmm
Sean William Scott: Great Idea. You couldn't ask for a better Bo Duke. Great choice.
Johny Knoxville: If he performs like he does in most of his film roles then its going to be a painful 90mins.
Jessica Simpson: Please don't do this to us... She lists her favourite song as Berlin's 'Take my breath away' . Okay it could be worse, they didn't choose Britney.
Saving grace? Jay Chandrasekhar the director and writer of Super Troopers.
I started off trying to hate the concept of this movie, however the more I think about it, the more I think that it might just work...

As you can see I have re-visioned the pages as a blogger. I am hoping that this will allow me to share some of my non-work related activities with anybody who might be interested.
