Country music favourite Kenny Chesney and Renee Zellweger filing for divorce after just five months of marriage.
Kenny and Renne first met at the Concert of Hope tsunami benefit event on January 15, this was followed by a whirlwind romance and a Caribbean beach wedding on the island of St John in the US Virgin Islands in May.
Chesney's publicist, Holly Gleason has confirmed the split to a number of news agencies.
Zellweger's publicist Nanci Ryder was unwilling to say if either Chesney or Zellweger had filed court papers however there are reports that court papers tell of Zellweger listing "fraud" as the reason for the divorce.
Since their high profile wedding the couple began spending less and less time together.
Speculation that the marriage was in trouble was fuelled when Renne showed up to the premiere of Cinderella Man in London last week without husband Kenny.
Last week I set about the English country music scene, lambasting performers for living in the past and attempting to recreate the american country sound.
Whilst Its true to say that American country music has its roots in English, Irish and Scotich folk music, English country music performers seem to ignore our own rich musical heritage and instead seem determined to sing songs about living on ranches, texas sunsets and other subjects they know nothing about.
It was a breath of fresh air when I listen to the mercury music prize nominee, Seth Lakeman.
Seth Lakeman is described by the music media as folk singer, songwriter and musician.
I would describe him as a true English country artist.
His second solo album ‘Kitty Jay’ has inspired by the stories and legends of Seth’s birthplace and home of Dartmoor.
The dramatic title track tells the legend of Kitty Jay, pregnant servant girl who killed herself in shame and was buried on the moor. To this day fresh flowers mysteriously appear on her grave.
Another favourite track, ‘Bold Knight’ tells of an injured knight lying on Dartmoor.
Its a fantastic album that really does manage to capture the atmosphere and wilderness of Dartmoor.
I highly recommend it. Its available to download from itunes and is also available at the usual outlets.
